SPORTS NEWS

We have every reason to be very proud of two of our year six boys. Conor Herbert Scott and Will Nicholson have both received an invitation to travel to England and France next September/October as part of an Under 13 rugby league team. Only thirty six boys will be travelling as part of this team. The NSW under 19 coach will be travelling with them.

During the week I interviewed the two boys about their coming experience. They are both very excited to be given this amazing chance. Will said he has received support from the Dodd Foundation who have donated money towards his expenses. Conor and Will are both receiving support from two of the local rugby league clubs. The Bega Roosters and Tathra Sea Eagles have set up fundraisers to help both boys raise enough money to fund the trip. If you have a chance to show your support they would be very grateful.

When asked about the itinerary they would be following Will said they will be away for seventeen days, flying firstly to England where the team will play four games. While in England they will also get to watch a Super League final game as well as going to watch a training session and behind the scenes at the Leeds Rhinos. A league soccer match is also on the agenda.

Conor said they then travel on to France where they will play more games as well as do some sight seeing. The Eiffle Tower, The Somme and Flanders Field were places Conor mentioned. The boys will also receive some special travelling gear.

One thing they are looking forward to is travelling and staying together as one group. Parents are invited to attend but the boys stay with the team. Conor said his parents would be going so a great adventure for them as well. What a fabulous experience this will be for both boys and Dennis!!

Over the past two years Will has been chosen in the MacKillop teams trialling for state selection in both cricket and rugby league. This year Conor was also selected for rugby league. Being selected in these teams allows selectors for future NRL teams etc to view these talented athletes at a young age. Conor and Will have obviously been seen as country kids with huge potential.

Will has also been invited to attend Endeavour Sports High in Cronulla next year when he enters year 7, for his cricketing and rugby league talent. It will be a shame to lose him from the valley but we look forward to seeing where it might take him in the future.
