Dear Parents and Carers,
ATTENDANCE - MAKING IT A PRIORITY!
Newsletter Article: Why Attendance Matters
Regular school attendance is a critical factor toward your child's academic success and overall development. When children attend school consistently, they are more likely to keep up with daily learning, build strong relationships with their peers and teachers, and develop a sense of responsibility and routine. Missing school can lead to gaps in learning, making it harder for students to catch up and stay engaged. As a community, we really prioritize attendance to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive academically and socially.
Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve well. Consistent attendance allows children to participate fully in class learning experiences that are essential for their growth. It also helps them develop important life skills such as time management, perseverance, and teamwork. By attending school every day, students can build a solid foundation for future academic success.
In addition to academic benefits, regular attendance fosters a sense of belonging and stability. Children who attend school regularly are more likely to form meaningful connections with their classmates and teachers, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. These relationships are crucial for their emotional and social development, helping them build confidence and resilience. Let's work together to encourage consistent attendance and support our students in reaching their full potential.
Whilst we all desire 100% attendance for every child, we know that ill health and other important family circumstances may inhibit this. Aiming for 95% and above is a good guide.
If your child's attendance drops we will be in contact with you to make a plan.
SCHOOL HOUSE KEEPING
Morning Drop-off Students are supervised from 8.30am. We ask parents not to drop children to school before this time, and for children who walk / scoot / ride, not to arrive before this time.
If a parent commences work in Bega at 8.30am and requires on a given morning for their child to be dropped at school a few minutes early, please contact me to organise this.
Belmore St / Gipps St safety There have been several reports of unsafe drop-offs and turn-arounds on Belmore St in the mornings before school. Thank you for playing your part in a safe school drop off zone.
* Please drop your child on the school side of Belmore or Gipps St
* If you drop on the opposite side of Gipps St please wait and watch your child cross at the crossing
* If you park on the opposite side of Gipps St in the afternoon, please use the crossing to return with your child to your car.
Lost and Found As the weather is changing more children are layering up, and then taking jumpers off wherever they are around the school and playground. The found trolley is already overflowing with jumpers and many of them are unnamed, or not re-named for your child. Please talk with your child about their responsibility for their belongings, and please check their name is on all items brought to school.
Finally, Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and mother figures this Sunday. Enjoy the day.
Blessings
Jo

Supporting Smooth Morning Transitions to School
As we continue to foster a positive and supportive school environment, I wanted to share some tips and strategies to help ensure smooth morning transitions for your children. Mornings can be a challenging time for both parents and students, but with a few simple steps, we can make this part of the day more manageable and enjoyable for everyone.
1. Establish a Consistent Routine Children thrive on routine and predictability. Establishing a consistent morning routine can help reduce anxiety and make the transition to school smoother. Try to wake up at the same time each day, have a healthy breakfast, and set aside time for any necessary preparations.
2. Prepare the Night Before To avoid the morning rush, prepare as much as possible the night before. Lay out clothes, pack school bags, and prepare lunches. This can save valuable time and reduce stress in the morning.
3. Create a Positive Morning Atmosphere Start the day with a positive attitude. Encourage your child with praise and positive reinforcement for their efforts to get ready on time. A calm and cheerful morning can set the tone for a successful day at school.
4. Gradual Exposure to the School Environment If your child is anxious about going to school, try to familiarise them with the school environment. Visit the school together, meet the teachers, and talk about what they can expect during the day. This can help alleviate any fears and build confidence.
5. Encourage Independence Encourage your child to take on age-appropriate responsibilities, such as dressing themselves or packing their own school bag. This not only helps them develop independence but also makes the morning routine more efficient.
6. Stay Connected with Teachers Maintain open communication with your child's teachers. If your child is struggling with morning transitions, their teacher may have additional insights or strategies to help. Regular communication ensures that everyone is on the same page and working together to support your child.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Together, we can make every school day a positive and enriching experience for our students.
FROM THE REC & CURRICULUM LEADER
We are thrilled to share the joyous news that the Catholic Church has a new leader! Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as Pope Leo XIV, becoming the 267th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church
This is a momentous occasion for Catholics around the world, and we are excited to celebrate this new chapter in our faith.
The election of the new Pope took place through a process called the Conclave. This ancient and sacred tradition began on May 7th, 2025, when 133 cardinals from around the world gathered in the Sistine Chapel.
The cardinals were locked inside the chapel, away from any outside communication, to prayerfully and thoughtfully cast their votes. After two days of voting, the white smoke from the chapel's chimney signalled that a new Pope had been chosen.
Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost, hails from the United States and has a rich history of service within the Church. His election marks a new era of leadership and hope for Catholics everywhere.
Let us join together in prayer and celebration for Pope Leo XIV as he begins his papacy. May his leadership be guided by wisdom, compassion, and a deep commitment to our faith.

FROM THE STUDENT COMMUNICATIONS LEADER
It’s Week 2 and in English Kinder have been learning tricky words. Arlo says that he loves English and it’s his favourite subject. They have become really good with one syllable words such as cat and mat learning each letter and their sound. In Creative Arts, Kinder has been learning to connect drawings with words. In Religion they have been learning about kindness including how important it is to accept one another in things like their games, no matter who they are. Saskia said she learnt that if you are nice to people they will be nice to you.
