FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL & CLASSROOM SUPPORT
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the upcoming holidays, it's important to ensure our children engage in a variety of activities that promote their overall well-being. A balanced mix of physical, cognitive, and social activities is essential for their development.
Physical Activities: Encourage outdoor play, sports, or simple exercises like walking or cycling. Physical activities improve coordination, balance, and overall fitness. Studies show that active children have better concentration and academic performance
Cognitive Activities: Reading, puzzles, and educational games stimulate the brain and promote cognitive development. These activities enhance problem-solving skills, creativity, and critical thinking. Regular cognitive activities are linked to better academic performance.
Social Activities: Social interactions are vital for developing communication skills and emotional intelligence. Encourage your children to spend time with friends and family, participate in group activities, or join clubs.
Reducing Screen Time: The Australian guidelines recommend no more than one hour of screen time per day for children aged 2 to 5 years, and no more than two hours per day for children aged 5 to 17 years. Excessive screen time can lead to physical health issues, mental health problems, and sleep disruption.
Examples of Balanced Activities:
- Outdoor Adventures: Plan family hikes or trips to the park.
- Creative Projects: Engage in arts and crafts.
- Reading Time: Set aside daily reading time.
- Board Games and Puzzles: Enjoy family game nights.
- Community Involvement: Participate in community events or volunteer as a family.
By encouraging a balance of activities, we can help our children develop into well-rounded individuals. Let's make the most of the upcoming holidays by promoting healthy habits and reducing screen time.
